Thomas Jefferson Elementary School

Message from The Principal

Dear Jefferson Families,

I am delighted to welcome you all to Jefferson Elementary School! I am excited and honored to continue my journey as the principal of Jefferson and am looking forward to another fantastic year with you and your children.

Our primary focus at Jefferson Elementary School will be to ensure a safe and engaging environment while we address the academic, emotional, and physical well-being of our students with families at the center of all that we do. It is our goal that your child feels connected and valued as a contributing member of our school community.

I am eager to serve our students as they continue to learn and grow as kind citizens and hard-working scholars. I know that through a strong home-school connection and collaboration, we will ensure that our Jefferson Eagles engage in meaningful learning opportunities and have a successful school year! We cannot do the work we do without you, and each year we strive to strengthen our home-school partnership.  I welcome you all to attend a coffee chat, school site council meeting, PTA meeting, or attend a Family Day event.  Jefferson is so fortunate to have a wonderful parent and school community, and your support makes such a difference.  Thank you for your continued help in making Jefferson an amazing place for students and families to grow and learn.

The Jefferson Staff is ready to work and assist you with anything you need.   Please let us know how we can serve your family’s educational needs in the coming school year.  Should you have any questions or need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

In gratitude,
Becky Dougherty

Public Hearing Notice: Extended School Year (ESY) Waiver

Educational Services
Office of Assistant Superintendent

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Regular Board of Education Meeting of April 8, 2026
Anaheim Elementary School District Staff Development Center
1001 S. East Street, Board Room - Building B, Anaheim. CA 92805 6:30 p.m.

The Board President is requested to declare a public hearing for the purpose of review and adoption of a waiver request to modify AESD's Extended School Year (ESY) program from 20 days (4 hours daily) to 16 days of instruction (5 hours daily). The shift in schedule will facilitate alignment with the dates of the general education summer instructional program, support increased opportunities for inclusive programming, reduce challenges for families with students in multiple programs, and support greater cohesion for staff and students.

Use of the waiver request process will also ensure the District remains in compliance with Ed Code Section 3043 (d) related to Extended School Year.

After hearing comments from the public, the Board President will give notice that a vote on this item is scheduled at the April 8, 2026, Regular Board meeting.

Jesús Chavarria, Superintendent
and Secretary of the Governing Board of the

School & District Parent & Family Engagement Policies 2025-2026

Research indicates that Parent and Family Engagement (PFE) help children achieve high academic standards. When schools work together with parents in school activities, and both schools and families engage in shared decision making regarding children’s education, students are more likely to acquire literacy at faster rates.

The links below contain the AESD and Parent & Family Engagement Policies. The policies are jointly developed with parents to establish objectives for meaningful parent and family involvement. (20 U.S.C. sections 6312, 6318[a][2])
